Your self-published ebook in libraries
Mike Shatzking in his latest blog post on library lending of ebooks mentioned that “Recorded Books is about to debut an ebooks-for-libraries program that will give publishers the flexibility to control four aspects of the license: in or out of catalog; price; number of loans limit (if any); length of license (if limited).”
But what about self-published books?
Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords, has had a system in place for some months now whereby libraries can offer Smashword authors books to their patrons. Smashwords Library Direct “is available to libraries that host and manage their own ebook checkout systems, typically using Adobe Content Server, and that are capable of acquiring a large opening collection.”
