Build Your Online Platform

Self-paced ONLINE course

Build your email list, create a lead magnet, a website, and engage in social media

Your website is a storefront and a scrapbook, a place to attract, inform, connect, collect, and communicate. Your website is “You-Central.”

Set Up Your Publishing Business

Self-paced ONLINE course

Publish from a position of power

These days, many authors choose to self-publish. It's no wonder! When you maintain control, you make all the decisions. Your book will never be backlisted unless you decide to backlist it. You can change the cover. You can change the title. You can change how it’s distributed. You can change the metadata. You can experiment with marketing strategies. You can bundle it with your other books or with books by other authors. It’s all up to you.

Travel Writing

Self-paced ONLINE course

How to craft your stories, articles, and book chapters for publication

This course introduces you to the world of travel writing. Learn how to take your idea and craft a publishable story with all the elements readers, and editors, are looking for. You'll identify and develop your theme. You'll learn how to plot your story--that is, how to "move it along." You'll learn how to create scenes and stack them in an order that creates a narrative arc. And for the most fun, you'll learn how to assert your voice, your perspective, and enrich your story with research, dialogue, flashbacks, and sensory detail.

Self-Publishing for Memoirists

The Steps You Need to Take to Successfully Self-Publish Your Memoir in 2021

Zoom Class with Carla King and Linda Joy Myers

Many authors believe that publishing your book independently is simply about getting your book designed, formatted, and uploaded to stores, so it’s no wonder the average self-published book sells only 200 copies. You can do better by following a proven process to find your community of readers and peers, to get your book into as many hands as possible, to build a platform, and to follow a launch plan.

3 Easy Ways to Grow Your Email List…And You Don’t Even Need a Website!

Zoom Class with Carla King and Linda Joy Myers

Start building your email list now, even if it’s several months, a year, or several years before you publish… the earlier the better. If you have an author website you love, awesome! It’s easy for you (or your website helper) to integrate. If you have a website you don’t love, you can bypass it, directing subscribers to the single signup page. If you don’t have a website, don’t worry at all. You don’t need one.

Building your email list is the single most important thing you can do, besides writing a great book, to make sure it gets read.
