Please join us for the next adventure writers group workshop sessions starting in November 2021.

We'll work together on our stories and meet on Zoom... and sometimes, in person!

Adventure Travel Writers Group

I started these writing workshops in March 2020 when the pandemic made it clear nobody was going anywhere soon. Though we're (mostly) free to travel now, these workshops remain the highlight of our week.

I hope you'll join us for this focus on craft, connection, and community. To get started, click the button below to take a short survey about your writing experience.

Both new and experienced writers benefit from the program. When you finish the survey, I'll send you some information about our next workshop.

WE WORK ON BLOG POSTS, ARTICLES FOR MAGAZINES, GEAR REVIEWS, SHORT STORIES, ESSAYS, ANTHOLOGIES, BOOK OUTLINES, CHAPTERS, AND PUBLISHING PLANS

STRUCTURE - SCENES - THEMES - PLOT - LEDES - THE HERO'S JOURNEY - THE HEROINE'S JOURNEY - SENSORY DETAIL - DIALOGUE - CAMERA ANGLE - AND SO MUCH MORE

The travel writing course and the adventure writers workshop is run by Carla King, an adventure traveler, blogger, moto-journalist, columnist, and author of travel memoirs and anthologies. Carla's also an editor and publishing consultant who self-published her first book in 1995.

You may be wondering how to start a blog, sell articles to magazines, or publish a memoir. Or you are thinking about how to turn your travel stories into a book. Perhaps you have a how-to guide in mind. Or an anthology, or a novel, a cookbook, or book of photography.

You may be a published writer who wants all the benefits of working in a writing community.

Get connected with other writers and work in a safe, encouraging environment.

Caroline Lunnon

British RTW Motorcycle Travel Writer & Memoirist based in France

Incredibly valuable, and a writing tribe, too!

The rough outline of my story was transformed into a soon-to-be published "signature story" with the help of the group that has now become part of my writing tribeThe combination of learning the craft of writing from Carla’s travel writing course and then discussing craft in the context of our stories in the live Zoom sessions was incredibly valuable.

James Sterling

Motorcycle Memoirist in California

I've written a couple of pieces I'm quite proud of.

I was nervous about taking a writer's course because I didn't think of myself as a writer. However, a friend of my said "you HAVE to meet Carla." In just a few short weeks—and with amazing, constructive feedback not only from Carla but from the others in the groupI feel so much better about my writing abilities and now have written a couple of pieces that I'm quite proud of.

Rachel Sarah Thurston

Frequent Traveler and Trekker in California

She's a remarkable teacher!

I've been blown away not only by Carla's personal life adventures, but her renaissance-like mastery of so many different areas. I have learned so much from her this past year in her Virtual Travel Writing Group spanning everything from utilizing effective narrative writing techniques to using Google Docs for critiques,,. She's a remarkable teacher!

Tammy Perry

World-Traveling Motorcyclist in Canada

They all feel like friends now!

I was excited to see people from all backgrounds, ages and from different countries. It didn't take long to get to know each other, because we workshopped each other's stories. I was touched by the level of compassion, sincerity and participation that everyone brought to the table. They all feel like friends now!

Michelle Lamphere

You've Heard of Sturgis Chick in South Dakota, right?

Tools and confidence to make my dream a reality.

Carla is one of the most generous and supportive mentors in the adventure travel community. Her presentations, workshops and guides have been my "go to" resource. I'm always blown away by how much useful, real world information she provides. She gave me the tools and confidence I needed to make my dream a reality.

Peter Muny

On Two and Four Wheels in California

I'm well on my way to writing my first book.

Carla has created a group structure that is respectful and fun. I look forward to the meetings every week and I'm grateful to all the members. There is no way I could have finished fifteen chapters of a first draft without the help of the group. With their excellent critiques and vital encouragement, I'm well on my way to writing my first book.

After you fill out the form I'll send you details about the workshop and a link to schedule a Zoom call with me.
